Your scouting-trip mindset

Plan less like a tourist and more like a future resident. Visit a grocery store, take a ride-share at rush hour, tour a clinic, work from your rental, and spend a quiet weekday in each neighborhood you’re considering.

Before you book

Choose your season

Summer runs roughly December through February and can be intensely hot. Cooler months make long neighborhood walks easier.

Pack for real life

Bring breathable clothing, reliable sun protection, a compact umbrella, and copies of key documents stored separately.

Learn useful phrases

Spanish unlocks daily life. Even a few Guaraní greetings signal warmth and respect for Paraguay’s bilingual identity.

Use city awareness

Stay aware of phones and bags, use established transportation, and ask trusted locals which blocks change after dark.

A grounded first look

Suggested 10-day scouting rhythm

Days 1–3

Asunción

Walk Villa Morra, Carmelitas, Las Mercedes, and quieter residential areas. Compare furnished rentals and clinics.

Days 4–5

Daily-life tests

Work a normal day, grocery shop, try public and private transport, and note noise, heat, and connectivity.

Days 6–8

Encarnación

Take in the riverside pace, local services, border-city energy, and options outside the capital.

Days 9–10

Reflect

Revisit your top neighborhood, price a realistic month, and write down what felt easy—and what did not.

Entry requirements change.

Confirm passport validity, entry rules, and any health guidance with official Paraguayan and U.S. government sources before departure.
